The Office of the Secretary of Defense Basic Research Office will be hosting its Science, Technology, and Innovation Exchange (STIx) December 10-11, 2018 at the US Institute of Peace located in Washington, DC.
The purpose of STIx is to encourage anyone from the public and members of the academic, research, and business communities to collaborate, share new discoveries and develop new scientific tools. This year’s STIx is all about the connections at the heart of science and technology (S&T). They tie together the student and the mentor, and link groups of scientists in collaboration. Connections lie between innovation and application, the known and the unknown, and the network of ideas in different disciplines that combine to produce new discoveries. The 2018 STIx event celebrates the importance of these connections to DoD science.
STIx presentations will be modeled after the very popular Technology, Entertainment and Design (TED) series of talks. Here are some of the exciting topics that will be presented at STIx:

Materials that can solve equations - Nader Engheta, University of Pennsylvania
Nanotechnology for Seeing the Brain in a New Light - James Delehanty, Naval Research Lab
Soft Wearable Robots for Everyday Use - Conor Walsh, Harvard University
Strength in Numbers: How social connections shape our brains and decisions - Jean Vettel, Army Research Lab
The keynote speaker for the event is Dr. David Walt, Harvard University, who is the Hansjorg Wyss Professor of Bioinspired Engineering at Harvard Medical School and Professor of Pathology at Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women's Hospital, is a Core Faculty Member of the Wyss Institute at Harvard University and is a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Professor.
