Congratulations to the For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) Black Mountain Middle School robotics team, sponsored by the Department of Defense (DoD) and located in the San Diego region of California, for competing in the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) San Diego League Semi Finals and winning the Motivate Award!

FIRST is a national nonprofit organization that operates after-school robotics programs for kindergarten through 12th grade students, both in the United States and internationally. The mission of FIRST is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering, and technology skills. FIRST strives to inspire innovation, foster well-rounded capacities, build self-confidence, improve communication skills, and enhance leadership abilities.

The DoD commends team Technique, who is comprised of 7th and 8th graders, for their tremendous efforts in the robotics program! This was the first year Technique and their coaches have competed in the FTC. The team was presented with the Motivate Award, an award recognizing students for embracing the culture of FIRST through team building, team spirit and great enthusiasm in their school and community. Additionally, Technique is also recognized for their top-tier performance as team captain of their alliance for the semifinals at their league championships early February 2019.

The DoD wishes Technique continued success in the FIRST Robotics program and looks forward to hearing more about their incredible accomplishments!
